Celtic v Rangers Preview - Scottish Cup Semi-Final

The latest Old Firm will take place in the semi-finals of the Scottish Cup, a competition won by Rangers 33 times and won by Celtic 40 times. Rangers are the defending champions, having defeated Hearts 2-0 in May 2022, and they’ll be hoping to defeat their arch-rivals and end up with silverware at the end of a disappointing league season.

Celtic are hoping for another treble-winning season, whilst Rangers are hoping, as always, to spoil their neigbours’ party.

The Bhoys are running rampant in the SPL having lost just once all season and being well on their way to a 100-point campaign. They’re currently 12 points clear of Rangers and are just games away from yet another league title to add to the collection.

Celtic Repeat Of League Cup Win

The two teams met in February's Scottish League Cup final where Celtic won 2-1 thanks to two Kyogo Furuhashi goals.

The Japanese star is having his best-ever season at Celtic with a 29-goal haul in all competitions. Ange Postecoglu will need his star-man to be on his best form in the upcoming semi-final, as Furuhashi’s goals have been vital to Celtic’s success.

Rangers Upset

Rangers’ season hasn’t gone exactly to plan, and everyone associated with The Gers would have hoped that the league season would conclude with a tighter race for the title.

The Light Blues have, however, had their defense of the Scottish Cup to hold on to, with the club hoping to defeat Celtic and march on to the final to face ever Falkirk or Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Roofe and Davis Out For Rangers

Rangers are still without centre-forward Kemar Roofe and midfielder Steven Davis. James Tavernier and Alfredo Morelos remain fit, though, so there’s every chance for Rangers to convert their chances.

Celtic have no current injury concerns, and fans can expect a full-strength line-up to be fielded in the semi-finals.

We can all expect a raucous atmosphere at Hampden Park as these two footballing giants engage in battle once-again.

Celtic v Rangers, Hampden Park, 30th April, kick-off 13:30 GMT.
