Premier League Darts Preview – Night Seven

The Premier League Darts returns to Rotterdam on Thursday night, with Michael van Gerwen two points clear of Peter Wright at the top of the standings. Last time out in Nottingham it was Gary Anderson that stole the headlines with his first win of campaign, however one expects MVG will be favourite to deliver in front of his home fans on Thursday. Strap yourselves in for night six with our preview to the action and if playing online casino is your entertainment of choice, then head over to Genting Casino and check out our selection of over 3000 online slots and our Premium Live Casino tables available to play on any device!

Peter Wright vs James Wade

James Wade remains one of three this Premier League season not to win a night and with just seven points to his name so far, only Joe Cullen sits below him in the table. Wright isn’t in the best run of form though, and while a second round exit wasn't poor last week, we fell akt the first hurdle in both players championship events at the weekend to Andrew Gilding and Steve West, both of whom currently sit outside the top-60 in the world rankings.

Any sloppiness on White’s part and Wade will take full advantage. The last 13 matches between these two have seen them win six apiece, with one draw there at the 2019 Premier League. Their two meetings so far in this Premier League renewal sees them take one game each, though it’s Wade that looks the better value considering. Despite his 6-1 defeat to Smith last in last week’s quarter-final, Wade managed over a 102 average, and was uncharacteristically sloppy on his finishes. Wright has been underperforming by his standards, and Wade is long enough to get behind causing an upset.

JAMES WADE TO WIN

Gary Anderson vs Joe Cullen

Night 6 winner Gary Anderson will be looking to continue that form this weekend against an out of sorts Joe Cullen who, after a strong start to his first Premier League campaign he’s now lost five of his last six matches in this competition and now sits bottom with just five points to his name.

This is actually the first meeting between these two this Premier League season, though they’ve met twice in 2022 already with Anderson taking victory at the players championship number five, while Cullen ran out a convincing 10-1 winner at the Masters earlier in the year. Confidence is low for Cullen now though, and that win at the Masters was his only victory in his last six meetings with Anderson. The Scot will be determined to make the top four, which he currently sits just two points outside, and he looks like the player with more momentum at this moment in time.

GARY ANDERSON TO WIN

Jonny Clayton vs Gerwyn Price

Since winning Night 2 to top the standings, Clayton has now lost four of his last five Premier League matches to drop down to third and his compatriot Gerwyn Price is hot on his heels in fourth. He still remains very much in the hunt to defend this crown he won last year, and will take confidence from the fact he’s won three of his last four meetings with Price.

Price has often struggled with this competition, and this year has been no different as he’d hoped to have been up at the top competing with van Gerwen and Wright, though there’s still a long way to go. He did well to beat the Dutchman in the quarters last week, though followed that up with an 86 average and no 180s in defeat to Smith, so consistency is the issue here. Still, he’s won 17 of his last 22 matches and we’ll back him to improve that record here.

GERWYN PRICE TO WIN

Michael van Gerwen vs Michael Smith

Many questions have been asked over Michael van Gerwen’s form so far this year, though he’s answering critics with aplomb and in a format like the Premier League, it takes a brave person to bet against the Dutchman over 16 nights. Back-to-back wins on Nights four and five shot him to the very top of the table, while since then he also claimed the second European Tour title of the year. Defeat in the opening round to Gerwyn Price last time out has stopped him running away with this so far, though that was largely down to the quality of the Welshman on the day.

Smith was runner up last week to Gary Anderson and while he averaged over 100 to beat Wade in the quarters, he was fortunate to beat Price in the semis having averaged just 89, and he’ll certainly need to be on top of things to take victory here. The Englishman has lost four of his last five meetings with van Gerwen, and it’s hard to see him outgunning him here as Mighty Mike looks to continue answering his critics.
