Wales v Georgia Preview And Betting Tips – Autumn Nations Cup Round Two

Wales welcome Georgia in round two of Autumn Nations Cup on Saturday knowing that a big performance is needed if they are to turn around a dismal slump of form. The Welsh have endured a horrendous 2020, a run that has seen them lose six straight matches, leaving newly appointed coach Wayne Pivac under huge pressure to keep his job. The Georgians come into the game off the back of a 40-0 drubbing by England last weekend, however they will be hoping their sheer physicality can do some damage to the hosts that are low on confidence. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting preview and tips for the game.

Recent Form

A lack of strategy cost Georgia last weekend at Twickenham, although it’s hard to have a game plan when the one thing you usually rely upon in your scrum is directly taken on and nullified.

They’ll be much more hopeful about this next match against a Welsh side who’re really struggling for form and not playing in their usual amphitheatre at the Principality Stadium.

Wayne Pivac’s men are currently on a six-game losing streak after Ireland cruised past them in Dublin last weekend (32-9), and the pressure is certainly growing on the new coach. However, that poor run has come against Ireland and France twice, as well as England and Scotland.

Prior to that, in Pivac’s first game in charge, they put an impressive 42 points past Italy in Cardiff while not conceding a single point either, and they’ll certainly want to replicate that this weekend.

Georgia +25 Point Handicap

The Georgians haven’t had a whole lot of success on their tour of the Six Nations outfits thus far, losing 48-7 to Scotland, while they never looked like troubling England last time out.

Against tier one nations, they’ve lost all 24 matches this century, although the two weakest sides they have faced since the Autumn internationals back in 2017, came against an experimental Welsh team under Warren Gatland and Italy.

Indeed, they still lost both those matches, but by considerably smaller margins, as Wales beat them by just seven and the Azzurri by 11, and we’d expect to see a similar sort of story this weekend following Pivac’s decision to make as many as 13 changes.

This certainly has the feel of the 2017 meeting between these two teams with so many changes being made, and given the firepower the visitors have, it could be a long evening for the Welsh forwards.

In fact, the hosts have named uncapped players James Botham, Kieran Hardy, Johnny Williams and Ioan Lloyd in their matchday 23, and a 25-point handicap margin seems far too great for an inexperienced side to overcome.

That’s especially the case, given the hosts at the peak of their powers when reaching the World Cup semis last year only managed to beat this Georgian side by 29 points in the group stage, and it looks a tough ask for a young side.

Georgia +25 Point Handicap At 10/11
