Scotland v Argentina Preview – Autumn Nation Series

Scotland and Argentina bring their respective Autumn Nations Series campaigns to a close on Saturday when they scrum down at Murrayfield in what should be a pulsating encounter. Despite losing to the All Blacks, the Scots will come into the clash full of confidence after taking the New Zealanders to the brink and Gregor Townsend will be looking for more of the same if they want to finish on a high. Check out our preview to the game and if playing online casino is your entertainment of choice then head over to Genting Casino where you will find over 3000 online slots and premium live casino tables.

Scotland put up a real fight against the All-Blacks last weekend. Having gone 14-0 down early on, they fought back to lead at the break, though a Jack Dempsey yellow card proved costly, and the Kiwis were just too much to handle with 14 men. That’s now two defeats from three now for Gregor Townsend’s men during this end of year series, with them narrowly going down to Australia courtesy of a Blair Kinghorn missed kick late on which could have sealed victory.

Argentina have come a long way under Michael Cheika and are no longer one of the minnows of tier 1 rugby. While they still aren’t the finished article, the fact that they’ve beaten the likes of New Zealand, Australia and England in the last three months alone show just how far they’ve come, while they also turned Scotland themselves over in a three-match series in the Summer.

Los Pumas certainly weren’t blown away by Wales last weekend in their 20-13 defeat, and had opportunities to steal the show once again, so that won’t be a huge dent in confidence heading into this.

Scotland To Win

The bookies have Scotland as four-point favourites heading into this, and on home soil that largely seems like the right call. Argentina edged out the Thistle 34-31 in their deciding match in the summer, but that was on home soil and at Murrayfield things will be quite different. Gone are the days when sides take Argentina lightly, and with a standout win just two weeks ago at Twickenham, Scotland know they’ll have to be at the very top of their game to take victory.

We think they’ll manage that though as despite recent results, performances have been up to scratch. They were unfortunate to loose to the Wallabies in a game where they could only field a select group of players, while they were en route to victory against the All-Blacks before Dempsey’s sin bin. While yellow and red cards could well play a part here, it’s difficult to account for that and on the basis that we’ll see 15-on-15 for the most part of the game, the hosts have the edge.

Argentina actually have a stronger W11-L10 head to head record against the Scots, though at Murrayfield Scotland have won the last three meetings. The South American side remain dangerous though and they should make a serious game of it, so we’re not confident of the four point handicap and the outright victory still appeals.
