Leinster v Bulls Preview - URC Semi-Final

The URC heads into semi-final weekend with Leinster and the Bulls getting the action underway when they scrum down at the RDS Main Arena in Dublin. The hosts finished top of the regular season standings and will start as favourites against a Bulls side that come into the game off an impressive run of just one loss from their last 10. Recent Form

Leinster were the pre-tournament favourites and they’ve certainly justified that status with their performances through the regular season and the play-offs, putting a whopping 76 points on Glasgow in their quarter-final clash. They look in ominous form heading into the final stages, especially when playing on home soil.

The Bulls played host in their quarter-final matchup with the Sharks, and while they looked to be heading for a comfortable victory at 27-13 in front, they only scraped a 30-27 victory owing to a last-gasp drop goal attempt by Chris Smith.

While the game proved to be tighter than expected, that win now means it’s eight wins from their last nine games which will fill them with confidence heading into this.

Bulls +20 Handicap

The Irish side have won both home outings against South African outfits so far this season, including a comprehensive 31-3 victory over the Bulls themselves, although that was in the opening round of the season and a lot has changed since that outing.

The other was a less comprehensive 21-13 win over the Lions, while their two touring matches in South Africa resulted in defeats, although they were without a full squad as they were also fighting on a European front.

They’ve won 10 consecutive home games now, averaging 46.4 points per game in that run so it’s hard to look past them, and the value may lie in the handicap market.

Leinster have covered the 20 point handicap in seven of those 10 outings, though the Bulls have really come into their own and having lost five of their opening six outings of the season, including the first two by more than that 20 point margin, they’ve kept within that bracket in every match since so we’re happy to get behind them to make this closer than expected.
