Durant Impresses In Suns Debut

NBA legend Kevin Durant hit the ground running in his Phoenix Suns debut by scoring 23 points and leading his team to a 105-91 win over the Charlotte Hornets.

The 34-year-old was making his return from an ACL injury that had sidelined him since the start of January, though it looked like Durant had never missed a step. The Suns now sit in 4th in the NBA Western Conference and a thrilling conclusion to the regular season looks very much on the cards.

The former Golden State Warrior star played limited minutes, but his contribution to the win over the Hornets was clear to see. As Durant reaches full fitness and completely rehabs his knee, his experience and know-how will be key to the Suns’ success this season.

Breaking Down Durant’s Game

Kevin Durant joins a Suns side already blessed with the talents of Chris Paul, Devin Booker, and Deandre Ayton, and the veteran’s inclusion in the Suns roster will help add some valuable title-winning experience and game-management skills. Though Durant missed his first shot, the cobwebs quickly vanished as the two-time NBA Champion hit 3s, created space, and contributed to the defensive aspect of the game.

Within 27 minutes, Durant had blocked two shots and finished the game with two assists. The performance wasn’t vintage Durant by any means, but the legend still impressed and it looks like he’ll only go on to build from here.

"I've played in almost a thousand basketball games, but today I was nervous," Durant said after his Suns debut. He went on to add: ‘’"Man, I missed the game. I'm glad my knee's back right, I'm glad I'm on the road to playing more and more minutes each game’’.

NBA Journey

It’s been quite the journey for Kevin Durant as his glittering professional career began at the Seattle SuperSonics in 2007. Graduating from the University of Texas, the 6ft10 forward quickly made a name for himself as one of the best scorers in the NBA. His reputation allowed him a move to the Golden State Warriors in 2016 and it was there that Kevin Durant’s legacy was carved out.

Two NBA titles (along with two Finals MVP Awards) followed and Durant was often mentioned as being as important to the Warriors as fellow-icon Steph Curry. The Phoenix Suns may not carry the same headline status as his former franchise, but Durant remains as motivated as ever to deliver.

"I'm looking forward to what we can build from this’’, stated Durant, who is eager for his third NBA Championship.
