Davis, from Maryland, USA, is undefeated in 28 fights and has won 26 of them by knockout - having one of the most impressive records in boxing today. Garcia, from California, is also undefeated, though he has fought five less bouts than his opponent.
Gervonta Davis’ last fight occurred in January when he defeated Hector Garcia, whilst Ryan Garcia’s last bout was in the knockout-victory against Javier Fortuna back in July.
The stage is now set for one of the biggest fights in recent memory, one that’ll be watched by fans from all over the world.
High Expectations
Some are calling the Garcia/Davis showdown the biggest fight of 2023 and the pinnacle of boxing’s strong Lightweight division. The boxing world has been eagerly awaiting the bout for months and the unbeaten nature of both opponents, combined with the Vegas setting, has produced a perfect storm of intrigue and anticipation.
Both Davis and Garcia are hugely talented and are set to be mainstays of the Lightweight division for years to come. At a recent Las Vegas press conference, Garcia stated: “Gervonta is a great fighter. I want to make that very clear, he’s a great fighter. But he cannot stop what will happen Saturday night. He’s not gonna stop it.’’
Davis stated he expects a ‘war’ with Garcia and he went as far as to say he’s not allowing his mother or family to the T-Mobile Arena to watch the fight.
The bout will air at around 5am on Sunday morning, but coverage of the main card will begin on Saturday night.
