Tottenham v Brentford Preview And Predictions - Premier League Week 14

Tottenham will be looking for a second consecutive Premier League win when they welcome Brentford on Thursday night. Following the postponement of their clash with Burnley on the weekend due to bad weather, Antonio Conte would have had more time to prepare and will demanding all three points against a Brentford side that ended a bad run of form with the win over Everton last time out. Recent Form

Antonio Conte has had an interesting start to his Tottenham career with a record of W2-D1-L1, with the loss coming against Slovenian club NS Mura in the European Conference League.

They weren’t offered the opportunity for an immediate bounce back either at the weekend as their game at Turf Moor was postponed, meaning they’ve had to sit on that defeat for another few days.

Brentford managed to get the ball rolling again with a win against Everton. Before that game they hadn’t managed a win in five fixtures with a 3-3 result against Newcastle being the only point they obtained over that run.

David Raya isn’t going to be making a return for a few months so fellow countryman Alvaro Fernandez will remain between the posts.

Under 2.5 Goals

When Spurs have played against newly-promoted sides at home since 2016/17, they have a fantastic record of W13-D2-L1. Amongst these 16 games, only two teams managed to score a goal before the half-time whistle (Aston Villa 1-0 at HT, Burnley 1-1 at HT) and Spurs went on to win both of those games.

The team from North London have also managed nine clean sheets (56%) in these games, so there could be some value in backing the win to nil.

Brentford are on great form away from home this season, losing just the once which came as a 3-1 loss to Burnley, and would be up in seventh place if the table was based solely on away matches.

This is something to keep in mind considering that they only need to go across London for this fixture so travelling won’t be an issue like it would have been with their defeat against Burnley.

In Tottenham games this season, they have an average of 2.33 match goals and when they have played newly promoted sides the game resulted in less than 2.5 match goals 56% of the time since the beginning of 2016/17.

Harry Kane has been a massive reason why Spurs’ output remains low this term, with only Norwich netting fewer times than the Lilywhites this season, and until he can prove he’ll produce goals regularly under Conte, the smart play is to back an unders game, especially considering the Italian will want to tighten up defensively, so we expect this to be another low scoring

PREDICTION:

UNDER 2.5 GOALS
