Yet another topsy-turvy start to the IPL for the Royals sees them currently propping up the table. A 10 wicket defeat to current leaders Bangalore showed the vast gap in quality between the two sides and unless the likes of their top order Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson and David Miller start performing with the bat we can’t see their results turning around.
Kolkata sit level on points with their next opponents with just one win from their three outings, and having found themselves 31/5 last time out against Chennai, before a late surge from the lower order, they have their own problems.
With that in mind, the outright market looks worth avoiding as we can see either side taking this one and although the Knight Riders look the more likely of the two to win it, that’s already factored into the price.

Instead, the best angle looks to be in backing the Royals’ captain to be their top scorer. With the aforementioned players failing to find their groove, Samson has already hit a ton is this years’ edition of the tournament against Punjab in their opening match and although he’s faltered since, he looks the value option to put in a good showing at longer odds than Buttler.
He’s still the seventh highest scorer so far this IPL at the time of writing and we don’t want to miss out on this opportunity.
