Jamie Vardy may not be enjoying his best season in front of goal, with just one strike from his last 12 league appearances, but the Foxes haven’t struggled at the sharp end with only the Manchester duo netting more this term.
Former City man Kelechi Iheanacho has been on fire in recent weeks with seven goals across their last four outings, scoring at least once in each of these, including five in their last two matches hosting Sheffield Utd and Man Utd.
Moreover, Vardy himself has a fantastic record against Man City with nine goals in 11 appearances across all competitions since 2016/17.
Pep Guardiola’s defence is a hard one to breach having secured consecutive clean sheets against Fulham, Borussia M’gladbach and Everton before the international break.
However, they had gone four without a clean sheet prior to that and as Leicester demonstrated in their astonishing 5-2 victory in the reverse fixture, they’re not completely watertight at the back.
Man City To Win And Over 2.5 Goals
In fact, both teams have scored in nine of 12 head to heads since 2016, with a combined 12 goals across the three meetings since the start of last season.
Harvey Barnes and James Maddison might be missing for the hosts, but there’s considerable depth available to Brendan Rodgers in the attacking positions, as Iheanacho and Vardy should have opportunities in front of goal.
Still, it’s hard to avoid backing the visitors to claim maximum points after winning 25 of 26 matches in all competitions, including all 14 on their travels as they scored at least twice on 12 occasions.
They’ve won by a two-goal margin or greater in 20 of these games in total, including five of the past six, and there’s no shortage of options available to Guardiola with even Sergio Aguero back fit.
Given the potential for Leicester to grab a strike, the away win and over 2.5 goals makes sense. There have been at least three goals in five of Leicester’s last six league matches, as both teams scored in five of these too (the exception coming when low-scorers Sheffield Utd drew a blank).
Moreover, Man City and over 2.5 goals has landed in seven of their past nine league outings, so this should prove an entertaining clash for the neutral.
Man City do have as many as 15 players that have been away on international duty, but with a clean bill of health and the quadruple to challenge for, momentum shouldn’t be lost here.
They do face Dortmund at home next, but that shouldn’t lead to wholesale changes and whoever Guardiola elects for in his starting line-up, quality should tell in the end.
