Genting Poker Series Sheffield 2013

Player turns £55 in to £42,960 in another stellar GPS tournament

22nd May, Sheffield: Late into Sunday night, Mudasser ‘Macca’ Hussain took down Leg 3 of this year’s Genting Poker Series in Sheffield and pocketed a useful £42,960 in the process.

What makes the victory even sweeter is the fact that Hussain won his seat in the GPS Super Satellite Week, when he played the 15 seat guaranteed satellite for £55.00 and only had just over 900 chips left when the tournament finished!

Sheffield attracted yet another massive field for this GPS leg, 546 starters in all, and the Steel City plays host to the tournament again in December when the popular venue is the location for the £200,000 guaranteed Grand Final.

With a prize fund of £218,400, the mild mannered Macca sealed victory when his A-K held up again Q-8 and the board came A-9-6-9, to defeat the enigmatic Yucel ‘ Mad Turk’ Eminoglu, who made Sheffield his third GPS final table as he sought to follow up his success in last year’s GPS leg in Stoke.

Interviewed afterwards, Hussain said; “I am glad it’s over, but I feel great. I had to play that a little bit sensibly, but I got the job done. I knew I couldn’t give him chips or the chance to double up.  Yucel got lucky once when I had 5-5 and he had K-8, and so I didn’t want to let him have too many chances. I went in to the final table pretty short stacked, but I soon realised that it was anybody’s game and I just waited in the corner and picked my spots. Early on I got lucky against Simon (Trumper) with an A8 against A9 and pinged the Jack on the river for the straight and after that I tried not to look back. Very happy with the result. It has been very well run and my thanks to everyone at Genting.”

A slightly more subdued Eminoglu reflected “It’s my third final table in the Series and whilst I shouldn’t be, I am a little disappointed to be beaten. I lost a big hand when we were three-handed which I should have won. If my 10-K had held up against the 10-J I think would have had a big chance but it left me short stacked at heads up with only eight to ten big blinds.  He played well though, credit where it’s due and I’ll be back here for the Grand Final.”

The GPS travels South next to a brand new venue in Southend, when Leg 4 commences on Wednesday 14th August with the first of three opening days. Genting has announced this week that day 1A will be hosted exclusively online, with day 1B and 1C in the club.

As always, online qualifiers are taking place at Genting Poker, Poker Encore, Circus Poker and in-club qualifiers are being held across selected Genting Casino poker rooms. The winners interview can be seen here courtesy of Genting Poker TV.
