Stoke casino team saddles up for charity bike ride

Colleagues at a Stoke casino will swap roulette wheels for the cycling variety when they take part in a 110-mile charity bike ride.
The six-strong team from Genting Club in Etruria Road, Hanley, will tackle the longest route in the Dougie Mac Bike Ride on Sunday 17 May from Stoke’s Michelin Athletic Centre to Llangollen.
Martyn Harris, Geoff Hine, Richard Furnival, Marc Gleave, Paul Gater and Nick Colclough want to raise as much as they can in the annual event for Douglas Macmillan Hospice.
Gary Parson, marketing advocate, at the Genting Club, said: “It’s the first time we have entered a team for this great local cause. It’ll be tough but I know some will be spurred on by personal loss to do their best for the hospice.
“We’re all impressed that they have chosen the longest of the three routes and we wish them well.”
Colleagues, family, friends and customers have sponsored the team. Anyone else who wants to donate can go to https://www.justgiving.com/GentingStoke/ or donate in person in the club.
Douglas Macmillan Hospice is the only specialist palliative care provider in Stoke, North Staffordshire and surrounding areas for adults facing any life-limiting illness. A registered charity, it needs to raise in excess of £12 million each year to maintain the services with 75 per cent of the money raised coming from voluntary donations.
