Liverpool casino raises the charity stakes for Macmillan

A Liverpool Casino has raised over £4,000 for Macmillan Cancer Support from a charity night and sponsored events which were inspired by colleagues who have battled the disease.

Genting Club Queen Square held a special charity night in its 1880 Bar in memory of well loved Gaming Manager Kathy Lever who sadly lost her fight against cancer recently.

The evening featured entertainment and a charity auction, which raised over £1,500 with lots of items including a signed Liverpool FC shirt, signed Everton football and a bottle of Louis VIII vintage cognac. A green cocktail made from Prosecco and Kiwi to reflect Macmillan’s theme colour was sold to boost the charity total. A donation from each player in the night’s poker competition was also made.

Carole Poulson, General Manager at Genting Club Queen Square, said: “We want to thank everyone who supported our efforts for Macmillan, both staff and customers. Macmillan does such fantastic work for people with cancer and their families.

“We have raised £4,025 so far and are expecting this figure to rise as more donations come in. Our charity night was a tribute to Kathy who was respected and well loved by everyone who met her. She had worked for the company for 17 years at a number of clubs in the North West and will be greatly missed.

“The evening was well supported and we had great feedback from everyone who attended. The cause is special to us because of Kathy and another colleague who is undergoing treatment for cancer.”

The club’s fundraising drive started with a sponsored five mile walk. Casino Pit Boss Paul Fox ran the Liverpool Half Marathon for the cause and 14 members of the team will join the Run for the 96 5K event on Sunday 19 April to raise further sponsorship for Macmillan
