A Fond Farewell To Genting Casino Luton GM After 36 Years

Genting Casino Luton has bid a fond farewell to their long serving General Manager Maggie Stiles, who has retired after more than 36 years working at the venue.

Having joined in 1980, following a career working away on cruise ships, Maggie quickly rose through the ranks, taking on roles including Pit Manager and Gaming Manager.

In 2004 she was promoted again to General Manager, having previously held a GM role at another local Genting Club. Since this time she has steered the club to continued success, mainly due to her hands on approach and the close relationship which she has worked hard to develop and maintain with employees and customers alike.

Maggie explains: “Before I became GM there had been a lot of changes to the management team and everyone presumed I wouldn’t be there for long - I certainly proved them wrong didn’t I!

“The GM position at Genting Casino Luton really was the perfect fit for me, and whilst it certainly had its pressures and stresses, as any job does, I always enjoyed going to work because it was such a social role.

“The casino attracts a really diverse set of customers and team members and that’s what gives it such a fantastic atmosphere - I used to really look forward to seeing our regular customers and the next minute meeting someone totally new.”

Maggie’s commitment to ensuring the highest quality service for her customers and a positive, inclusive working environment for her team were what earned her the coveted General Manager of the Year award in 2012, something she classes as one of her biggest achievements:

“Receiving the GM of the Year award was a real honour and totally unexpected. Alongside helping my team members grow, and seeing them progress into GM roles of their own, this is the thing I am most proud of during my time at Luton.”

And it seems only fitting then that one of the former gaming managers which Maggie helped to train, James Harvey, now takes over the reins at Genting Casino Luton following a previous GM role in Bristol.

James concludes: “Maggie has certainly set a fantastically high standard for me to follow but I am very much looking forward to the challenge and I’m delighted to have such an experienced and dedicated team alongside me to help make the next 16 years as successful as the last 16 under Maggie’s leadership.

“On behalf of everyone at Genting Casino Luton I would like to thank Maggie for all of her hard work over the last 36 years and hope she enjoys a very well earned retirement down in Torquay.”
