Sheffield gets in the charity swing for Responsible Gambling Week

Customers and staff at Genting Casino Sheffield successfully raised over £5,000 for four charities during Responsible Gambling Week.

Gamble Aware, CHIPS, St Luke’s Hospice and Memories From Isla all benefited from the activities which ran over the week of 1-7 November, 2018.

The events, which raised a total of £5031.38, included a Charity Golf Day held at Wortley Golf Club, which saw 15 teams, some coming from as far away as Scotland, taking part.  Premier Blinds eventually won the close-fought competition.

All the golfers were whisked to the casino for an evening of entertainment, which included a hot buffet, £10 gaming bet and an auction with prizes including tickets to the Genting Arena, VIP tickets to a Manchester City game, Luxury Dinner for two at the new Sky by Waters restaurant with overnight stay at the luxury Resorts World Birmingham, a signed Sheffield Steelers shirt and access to a Steelers suite for 12 on match day, a cocktail masterclass for five at Kettle Black and a show-stopping pamper package at FIQ Beauty Salon.

The Genting Casino Sheffield team also showed their charitable side, organising sponsored leg waxes and hot dog eating competitions.

The Casino staff were also on hand to talk to customers about Responsible Gambling Week, a campaign led by the gambling industry, which aims to create a conversation with customers, staff and the wider public about gambling responsibly. Its aim is to drive awareness of how to gamble responsibly, highlighting the tools available to help people gamble safely all year round, and the sources of advice and support.

Claire Maynard, General Manager at Genting Casino Sheffield, said: “It was a really remarkable week of activities and we’re all absolutely over the moon to have raised this amount of money for four fantastic charities. I am so proud of my team!”

“Genting UK is a huge supporter of the work that Responsible Gambling Week is doing, and we wanted to raise awareness of the dangers of problem gambling to our customers. It was great to see lots of conversation between customers and the staff and to make everyone aware of the tools available if they ever felt they had a problem.”
