New hotel planned for Birmingham

Plans for a casino complex in Birmingham have been drawn up and, if given the go-ahead, could create hundreds of hospitality jobs in the West Midlands.

The National Exhibition Centre (NEC) Group hopes to create a 55,000m2 Resorts World facility in partnership with Genting Casinos.

It would feature a casino, hotel, spa, conference centre, multi-screen cinema, shops, bars and restaurants.

The venue would be located between the LG Arena and the Crowne Plaza Hotel and could create employment for over 1,000 people, including those in restaurant and hotel jobs.

Peter Brooks, from Genting Casinos, told the BBC he was “more than satisfied” that he and his colleagues could show planning officials at Solihull Council the casino would be a “responsible environment that adds value to the region”.

Last month, Travelodge announced that it had created 100 hotel jobs to staff its seven new venues opening this spring, including one in Birmingham.
