Great Effort on the Great Wall of China
The charity-inspired efforts and commitment of the Genting team never fails to inspire and amaze.
Our colleagues go to great lengths to raise money for good causes and come up with inventive and creative ways to attract sponsorship.
Vicki Cooper-Jones, who works at Star City, Birmingham, and Monika Vileniskyte, from the Colony Club in London, certainly took on a demanding test when they trekked the Great Wall of China in aid of the Responsible Gambling Trust earlier this year.
The duo won the trip to one of the great wonders of the world in a competition for Genting staff and raised a commendable £1,500 for the Trust.
They joined fellow fundraising adventurers and route experts to complete the 60km challenge over five days. It was physically demanding, especially on steep climbs over rough and stony paths, and a memorable experience too as they stepped back in history.
Monika said: “We both trained hard in the run up to the trek and I even walked around my local park with a rucksack full of potatoes to get myself ready! It was an incredible adventure. There’s no denying it was hard work at times, especially walking the parts of the Great Wall that haven’t yet been restored, but the views were amazing and it was such a rewarding challenge.
“It’s been great to give something to a charity I firmly support and carries out important work in our industry, so I’m really grateful for the opportunity.”
Congratulations to Monika and Vicky on their achievement, it was no mean feat.
Genting is a long-time supporter of the Responsible Gaming Trust which is the leading charity in Britain committed to minimising gambling-related harm. This was its third international trek and next year it returns to Mount Kilimanjaro.
Now that’s a challenge which could well inspire more of the adventure-loving Genting team.
