Food critic blown away by Manchester’s Chinese restaurant No 8

Respected food and wine critic Ray King visited Genting Casino Manchester’s new Chinese Restaurant No 8 and gave the Portland Street venue a rave review.

The restaurant’s debut, in the run up to the Chinese New Year of the Pig starting on February 5, was marked with the clash of cymbals, drumbeat and traditional dragon prancing around the tables.

Writing for ilovemanchester.com, King said: “It’s a restaurant like no other…and brings a unique style of dining to a city already blessed with cuisines from round the globe.”

The restaurant offers a number of specialities much more familiar on Hong Kong menus than in the UK, and King noted: “The menu is complex, but staff are extremely helpful…the menu is also particularly strong on fish – cuttlefish, sea bass, lobster, oysters and tiger prawns are listed.”

As well as giving the varied menu the thumbs up – “our table was soon covered with beautifully presented ingredients” – King noted that the ambience created by No 8 had “a vague cruise-ship feel”.

So, it is probably time to drop anchor and sample the delights.
