Bolton Casino Marks Earth Hour To Protect The Planet
Genting Casino Bolton will add its support to a worldwide call to protect the planet when it turns the lights out for WWF’s Earth Hour 2016.
The exterior lights and signage at the Higher Bridge Street venue will be switched off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on Saturday 19 March and a panda will also make an appearance to promote the cause.
Marketing advocate Alan Warwick said: “It’s the third year we have supported Earth Hour. This year we’re developing the theme and having a member of staff dress as a panda, the iconic symbol of the WWF, to pose for photographs with customers and post them on social media.
“It’s a chance to show we care about the planet and the need to live more sustainably. I do a lot of star gazing so I’m aware of light pollution. Anything we can do to spread the message has to be a good thing.”
Earth Hour is said to be the world’s largest collective environmental action and aims to engage people on a broad range of environmental issues. It started as a lights-out event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007 and now encourages individuals, communities, households and businesses to turn off their non-essential lights for one hour as a symbol of their commitment to the planet.
