Italy v Ireland Betting Tips – Six Nations Round Three

Ireland’s 15-13 loss to France in round two of the Six Nations was the first time they have lost their opening two games in the Championship and are now facing an uphill battle if they are going to salvage something from this campaign. Andy Farrell will be expecting his team to come away from the Stadio Olimpico in the early Saturday kick-off with a bonus point win and some momentum ahead of their final two games against Scotland and England. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting tips for the game, while we have additional value with our boosted odds for the weekend’s sport which you can claim below.

Recent Form

The third favourites prior to the tournament have had a mightily disappointing start, losing to both Wales and France.

They did earn losing bonus points in each of those defeats, but Andy Farrell will know those performances aren’t good enough if he wants to maintain his job.

Unsurprisingly, the Italians still sit on zero points after the opening two rounds against the two pre-competition favourites.

That means they’ve now lost 29 Six Nations games on the bounce dating back to March 2015, while at home, it’s a miserly 18 straight defeats dating back even further to the start of 2014.

The return of Johnny Sexton, Conor Murray and James Ryan to the Irish squad is only going to boost their chances of a convincing victory and we feel that the current 22-point handicap underestimates what this outfit is capable of.

A 13th-minute red card crippled them in their opening fixture against Wales, with them very nearly still winning it, if it wasn’t for a missed touch kick from Billy Burns in stoppage time.

Following that, they took the French who we think are head and shoulders ahead of the rest of the competition in terms of form and quality, to an extremely close 15-13 scoreline; we believe they have the players and tools to put the Azzurri to the sword.

Ireland -22 Point Handicap

It wouldn’t be the first time they’ve trashed Italy in Rome either. They won 63-10 back in 2017 here at Stadio Olimpico, scoring nine tries, and in fact they’ve won by more than the current handicap line in six of their seven meetings at all venues in this tournament since 2014.

Moreover, against England, France and Ireland, the Italians have lost all 11 meetings here in Rome since 2014, as they failed to cover the current 22-point handicap in eight of those and that looks an extremely solid bet for us.

Italy may not have any injury troubles to worry about, but now more than ever the question of Six Nations relegation has to come into play.

Their current losing run is becoming an embarrassment and the most worrying part is we just can’t see any progression being made under Franco Smith.
