Australia v France Betting Tips 2nd Test

Australia and France continue their thrilling series when they clash in the 2nd Test in Melbourne. The opening exchanges was nothing short of spectacular with the hosts coming from behind to edge France 23-21, a result that would have left French coach Fabien Galthié very frustrated, however at the same time encouraged considering he has taken a very young and inexperienced squad on the trip. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting tips for the game.

Having not lead the whole game Australia snatched a victory at the death against France in the opening Test (23-21). Some sloppy French passing saw them gift the ball back to the Aussies in stoppage time and the hosts can count themselves lucky to have come away with the win.

France will be proud of their performance without their star players. Taking a 15-0 lead at the half an hour mark was exactly what they needed when travelling ‘down under’, but the inexperience showed, as they couldn’t hold onto their eight-point advantage in the final 15 minutes of the game.

That’s now 12 defeats on the bounce against Australia on their tours here dating back to 1997, but we wouldn’t have them as big as their current price off the back of that hard-fought game at the weekend.

Australia 1-12 Point Winning Margin

The bookies give them just a 22% chance of victory and the handicap line has been drawn at 10 points. Although the Aussies dominated the statistics, with 66% of the possession and 75% territory, Shaun Edward’s input in defence has obviously had a positive impact on the visitors.

Since Fabian Galthie took over the reins following the 2019 World Cup, Les Bleus have lost just four times from their 15 matches over 80 minutes under him, as each of those defeats came against Scotland (twice), England and that recent Australia clash, losing by fewer than 12 points in each.

One of those defeats against the Scots came due to a first half red card to their prop, while they managed to take the Red Roses to extra time in the Autumn Nations Cup final with a heavily rotated side.

The hosts haven’t won by more than two points in a game since beating Georgia 27-8 in the group stages of the World Cup, going W2-D3-L3 from their eight games since.

Although they have had the advantage when the French have visited down the years, this side under Galthie have shown a lot more resilience than their sides of old and we’d expect this second Test to be another close encounter.

It’s clear to see Dave Rennie’s men are going through a transition phase as they look to blood in new players, and we just can’t see them running away with this game.

The last time these two teams faced off in Melbourne, it finished 6-0 to the hosts and although we don’t think this fixture will be as low scoring as that, we’d expect the French to be tough competitors once again.
