Week 16 saw three teams clinch their division titles, with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams and Kansas City Chiefs all assured of places in the postseason. The playoff picture is much clearer now as we head into the final game week, but there are still teams fighting to keep their season alive. Amongst those teams in the NFC looking to secure an unlikely playoff berth are the Seattle Seahawks. Pete Carroll’s squad have failed to hit the highs of their Super Bowl winning campaign in 2014, but a win against the Dallas Cowboys in week 16 has kept their playoff hopes alive.
The Seahawks can secure their place in the postseason with a win against the Arizona Cardinals. Their fate isn’t entirely in their own hands, however, as the Seahawks also need the Atlanta Falcons to lose against the Carolina Panthers. On current form, both of those results are certainly plausible, so expect the Seahawks to get the job done and make the playoffs. Back the Seahawks to use home field advantage to win at 7/5 with a handicap of -11.5 against the Cardinals.
In the AFC, meanwhile, the Baltimore Ravens are in prime position to seal one of the wild card spots. Whilst the Steelers have conquered the AFC North division, the Ravens can extend their season with victory against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Despite the Bengals winning against the Lions last time out, we see a big win for the Ravens here in this divisional matchup. Backing the Ravens to secure a two-touchdown victory over the Bengals at 6/4 looks like good value. If the Ravens were to lose, they would still make the playoffs if either of the Buffalo Bills or Tennessee Titans fail to win.
Speaking of the Titans, Tennessee is coming off a third consecutive loss. In spite of this poor run of form, the Titans can still make the playoffs with victory against the Jaguars, or if the Bills and Chargers both lose this weekend.
Philadelphia Eagles secured the no.1 seed in the NFC with an unconvincing victory against the Raiders on Monday night. Any team drawn against the Eagles through the playoffs will be able to play without fear, as the NFC East Champions are not the same side without star quarterback Carson Wentz.
For this final game of the regular season, the form book goes out the window and it’s a case of ‘win to get in’, so expect the unexpected this weekend.
