It was a pretty stale affair in the FA Cup midweek between Man United and West Ham, though Scott McTominay’s extra time effort was enough to seal the Red Devils’ progression to the quarter-finals as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer seeks his first trophy in charge.
They’re certainly not out of the race for the Premier League either, though they could be down in third and eight points adrift of Man City by the time this game kicks-off on Sunday.
Anything other than a victory here is unacceptable from the visitors’ perspective, with West Brom not looking any better under Sam Allardyce’s tutelage with just a W1-D2-L7 record to keep them in the bottom three.
Interestingly, although the Baggies have picked up just three points from a possible 45 against the top 13 in the table, all three have come in six matches against the current top five as they earned draws with all of Man City, Chelsea, and Liverpool.

In truth though, their home record is particularly abysmal this season and up against that top-13 bracket, they’ve lost seven of eight winless matches at the Hawthorns and conceded an average of 3.6 goals per game, so it’s hard to see them staying resolute against the top away scorers in the league.
However, of United’s eight away wins this season, only one has come to nil as they made a habit of falling behind in these games before romping back to steal the three points.
We wouldn’t be confident in backing the hosts to score though, as aside from their 3-3 draw against a Chelsea side that made an array of errors in the first half, they’ve not managed a single goal in any of their five matches against the current top half, while they also drew blanks at home to Arsenal and Burnley.
Allardyce hasn’t quite had the desired effect as of yet, and his record of never being relegated in the Premier League is under serious threat at the moment.
It seems he doesn’t have the right crop of players for his defensive minded system with the likes of Matheus Pereira, Connor Gallagher and Grady Diangana more suited to a fluid, attacking system, and until there are signs of improvement, we just can’t get behind the hosts getting anything out of this game.

A comfortable win looks to be on the cards here for United who are looking to move on to 30 away points for the season, more than they picked up in the entirety of the 2019/20 campaign, and there’s no doubt that Bruno Fernandes will be central to anything his side produces, and his kind of delivery is exactly what Edinson Cavani thrives on.
The Uruguayan has bagged in his last two appearances in the league, and with five of his seven goals so far in all competitions coming away from home, we’ll get behind him to find the net again here.
