Frank Lampard will have been delighted with the 6-0 win over Barnsley. Not only was his team able to secure a big win without the vast majority of their best 11, but a hat-trick for Kai Havertz will no doubt do the German some good after an underwhelming start.

New defensive signings Thiago Silva and Ben Chillwell also got some minutes under their belts, though the latter only came on as a second half substitute and given he’s still edging his way towards match fitness, expect Marcos Alonso to come back into the team.

West Brom have had virtually nothing to cheer about on their return to the top flight. Their sole win came over Harrogate Town in the League Cup, which was sandwiched by defeats by three-goal margins against both Leicester and Everton, while they crashed out on penalties to Brentford midweek at the Hawthorns.

Although their Premier League encounters have so far been against teams that will expect a top-half finish this season at a minimum, that is also very much the case for visitors Chelsea.

Chelsea -1 Handicap

With that in mind, the Blues look an excellent price on the handicap. They only won by more than a single goal in four of their 19 road trips in Lampard’s first season, but having strengthened over the summer and particularly in attack, they should cover the handicap more often this term.

Indeed, they still netted over two goals per game on their travels last season and on the early evidence of the new campaign, their hosts don’t look like they’re going to keep many teams at bay.

Both Teams To Score

Although Christian Pulisic and Hakim Ziyech are currently sidelined, firepower shouldn’t be an issue for Chelsea and indeed, neither of those two featured in their 3-1 win away at Brighton on the opening day.

The defence does however still need some work and it’s unlikely Thiago Silva (who just turned 36) will be asked to start two games in quick succession. New keeper Edouard Mendy could be thrown into the action, though he won’t have had time to gel with his teammates and the backline will surely be comprised of players who were already at the club.

Chelsea have now kept just the solitary clean sheet from 20 road trips since the start of last season, conceding at least twice in 12 of them, so the Baggies should be aiming for a consolation effort.

That’s especially the case given that West Brom’s two star players (Matheus Pereira and Grady Diangana) play out wide in attack. Both registered on the scoresheet at Everton, a team like Chelsea in so far as they’re better equipped in midfield and attack than in defence.

Chelsea -1 Handicap At 10/11

Both Teams To Score At 19/20
