Recent Form

It has been an impressive season for West Brom in the Championship, with a recent run of five wins from their last seven outings across all competitions, though their solitary defeat did come against Wigan at the Hawthorns last time out.

Meanwhile, Newcastle, had to settle for a bore draw with an in-form Burnley side last time out after Matt Ritchie twice went close, hitting the post in the first half.

That 0-0 result means they remain goalless from their last three outings, while they possess just two goals over 90 minutes from their last six outings, both of which came against League One side Oxford Utd in an FA Cup fourth-round replay.

That has put some pressure on them and with the likes of Joelinton netting just three goals from 32 appearances this term – at a rate of a goal every 838 minutes of action – it’s no surprise to see why their output in the final third is struggling.

Under 2.5 Goals

West Brom certainly don’t have the same problems as their visitors having netted more goals than any other side in the Championship.

Moreover, their home record across all competitions this term reads W8-D7-L4 from 19 outings, with an output of 37 goals in total which averages out at nearly two goals per game.

However, their recent record at Hawthorns has seen them win only two of eight fixtures, with three of their four defeats here this term coming over this period of recent games.

With only one of those games seeing more than two goals in total, it could be a much tighter affair after all.

West Brom And Newcastle To Draw

The Magpies have had a torrid time on the road since mid-September, going W2-D4-L8 from 14 trips, with one of those victories coming at the London Stadium against an out of touch Hammers outfit.

In fact, they’ve gone a remarkably poor nine defeats from 17 winless trips in this competition since 2006/07, nine of which saw fewer than three goals and they look like they have their work cut out.

Indeed, 12 of those came against teams outside the Premier League at the time, but they still went D7-L5 in those and so we can certainly see this ending in another deadlock.

Against the fellow two teams pushing for promotion alongside the Baggies – Leeds and Fulham – they’ve drawn two of their three winless outings this season and all of those saw a maximum of two goals.

However, credit has to go to go to them for overcoming that West Ham side 1-0 back in January, and although the Hammers were poor, they’re still a division above Slaven Bilic’s men. Considering Newcastle are a better side than that West Ham outfit, we’d rather side with the draw in this one.

The Draw At 12/5

Under 2.5 Goals At 3/4
