Watford face a fellow relegation candidate in Aston Villa in their last match of 2019, and they’ll be hopeful of making strides toward safety. Despite a dismal season so far in which they’ve already sacked two managers, the Hornet’s home form isn’t as dire as could be expected.
Indeed, they’ve now only lost two of their last nine at Vicarage Road in all competitions, while victory over Man Utd in their last outing here has stood them in good stead to host the Villans, who haven’t quite cut the mustard on their travels this year.
Their only such victory has come against fellow strugglers Norwich in a 5-1 thrashing at Carrow Road, while they’ve lost seven of their other eight matches.
It should be noted, however, that their opening half of the season has been slightly lopsided in terms of home and away fixtures, having travelled to five of the ‘Big Six’ already, while they also made trips to tricky opponents in Wolves, Sheffield United and Crystal Palace, so it’s no surprise they’ve picked up the fewest away points in the league this year.
They should have a better run of the things in the back end of the campaign, which could all start here.

Interestingly, excluding matches against ‘Big Six’ teams Arsenal, Chelsea and Man Utd, Watford have only managed a single strike from six games here, which came from the boot of Andre Gray in a 3-1 defeat to the Hammers back in August, as against the weaker sides they tend to struggle for output, while even against those aforementioned ‘bigger sides’ three of their five goals have come from the penalty spot.
Villa, on the other hand, have been a very free scoring outfit this term, with 12 goals from their nine trips in the league alone, even having visited such competitive sides.
In fact, the three weakest sides they travelled to across all tournaments saw them come away with victories in each of them, as they beat all of League Two outfit Crewe Alexandra, Brighton and the Canaries by a combined 14-3 and they look the value bet.
