Tottenham v Chelsea Preview And Betting Tips – EFL Cup Last 16

Both Tottenham and Chelsea come into their EFL Cup last 16 clash on Tuesday night still somewhat short of their best form. In the third round Chelsea brushed aside Barnsley, while Tottenham were given a bye after Leyton Orient were forced to forfeit their clash due to players testing positive for Coronavirus. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting preview and tips for the game.

Recent Form

A disastrous first half for Chelsea at the Hawthorns saw them go three goals down to West Brom. Frank Lampard’s charges did bounce back to equal the scores in stoppage time though and take a point in the process, but the result will have left the manager very frustrated.

Spurs’ busy schedule has put pressure on the rotation of their squad, as they had to travel to Macedonia in Europa League last Thursday before hosting Newcastle in the Premier League at the weekend.

They were very unfortunate to not take the full three points in the latter, as a very questionable hand ball decision was awarded to the Magpies in the dying minutes of the game, which Callum Wilson buried.

That means they’re yet win at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this term form their two games after Everton grinded out a victory on the opening weekend of the league and they look to be in for a tough night this Tuesday here too.

It’s no secret that Lampard holds an impressive record against his old manager Jose Mourinho. Indeed, a victory on penalties at Old Trafford in this tournament when in charge of Derby two seasons ago was the first of his accomplishments against him, while a clean sweep both home and away in the Premier League last season saw the student become the master.

Both Teams To Score

However, dating back to July the Blues have struggled on the road, going just W3-D1-L5 from their nine trips across all competitions, although four of those did come against the likes of Man Utd, Liverpool, Bayern and Arsenal.

Goals don’t seem to be a problem for them though, netting three past both Brighton and West Brom in their only such fixtures this term, while both teams scored in eight of those nine trips.

The Lilywhites look leaky at the back too having kept just three clean sheets from their 11 matches here dating back to the start of February and although Son Heung-Min looks set to be on the sidelines for a while, they still have an in-form Harry Kane leading the frontline.

Interestingly, the hosts have seen both sides get on the scoreboard in eight of their 12 matches against the ‘Big Six’ across all competitions since the last of last season, while Chelsea have seen that in 10 of 15 over that period, and everything is pointing that way for us in what will be a vitally important match for both teams to get their season kick-started.

Both Teams To Score At 6/10
