Rangers continue their winning form when they take on St. Mirren in the mid-afternoon Scottish Premiership kick-off on Wednesday. Recent Form

Rangers will be wary of a St. Mirren side that are the only team to down them domestically from 22 attempts this season, when they met just two weeks ago in the League Cup.

The Gers did still win 19 of those outings, including 18 of 20 unbeaten league matches, but their hosts also arrive in excellent form of their own.

Across all competitions, Jim Goodwin’s side have lost just once in 13 appearances since early October, winning seven of the last nine over 90 minutes.

These have been tight affairs as just one of those seven victories came by more than a single goal, but they’ve proven themselves a tough nut to crack this term.

In 23 matches across all competitions this season, St. Mirren have lost by a two-goal margin or greater on just two occasions.

Moreover, on home turf alone, they’ve lost just two of 22 games by more than a single strike going back over a year now.

Although there should be no underestimating their hosts, Rangers are understandably strong favourites to continue their relentless title march.

However, with the games coming thick and fast, and with a crucial Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Saturday, Steven Gerrard has hinted at some rotation for this fixture.

There could be a rare start for on-loan midfielder Bongani Zungu, with Ryan Jack doubtful and Steven Davis in need of a rest ahead of the visit of Celtic.

Meanwhile, Scott Arfield also looks set to miss out after limping off against Hibs, just four minutes after coming on, joining long-term absentee Niko Katic on the sidelines.

St. Mirren +1.75 Asian Handicap

Rangers have only won by more than a single goal in five of 15 away league matches since Christmas last year.

Although each of those five came from their 10 fixtures so far this term, it’s worth noting that aside from an Old Firm derby back in October, the other four came against Hamilton, Motherwell, Ross County and St. Johnstone – the current bottom four in the table.

Rangers may have won six of seven head to heads with St. Mirren under Steven Gerrard, but only one of four since the start of last season has seen the Gers walk away with a victory by at least two clear goals. That came at Ibrox, where Rangers often win big these days, and indeed hosting Hibs last time out only Dillon Barnes between the sticks prevented a scoreline bigger than 1-0.

The combination of St. Mirren’s current form, home advantage and a potential rest for Rangers’ star players ahead of the most important Old Firm derby in years, leaves us inclined to back the hosts on the Asian handicap.

St. Mirren +1.75 Asian Handicap At 4/5
