Both sides head into this fixture having won three of their past four, including a 2-1 win for St. Mirren over the Hoops themselves at Celtic Park at the end of January.
In fact, three of the past four head-to-heads have ended 2-1 to one side or the other, as all four featured at least three goals, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see more goals with Celtic seemingly finding their attacking groove once more.
Excluding encounters with Rangers, who of course hold an unbelievable defensive record this term having conceded just eight league goals, Neil Lennon’s side have only failed to score once in 45 top-flight appearances going back to October 2019.
Although that was an encounter last month when hosting Livingston, it was a makeshift team that took to the field as 13 Celtic players were absent following Christopher Julien’s positive Covid-19 test after some warm weather training in Dubai.
We’d be surprised if the visitors couldn’t find a goal from somewhere then. In fact, also excluding a 1-1 draw with Hibernian where the Hoops’ squad was depleted for the same reason, in addition to that clash with Livingston and any against Rangers, Celtic have scored at least twice in 17 of their last 19 appearances – including all nine on the road over this period.
Of course, Celtic’s real Achilles heel this season has been their defence. Ignoring their encounters with the bottom three in the table, they’ve registered just two clean sheets in 12 matches now, which certainly encourages backing both teams to score here.
An improving St. Mirren have snuck up into the top half of the table, with a few games in hand over each of the two teams directly below them. That’s left them in a highly favourable position to avoid the cut at gameweek 33, and doing so would ensure a first top-six finish since 1985.

Across all competitions, both teams have scored in seven of St. Mirren’s past nine on home turf, with Jim Goodwin’s side only registering one clean sheet themselves versus bottom-three outfit Kilmarnock, while the one time they were denied a goal was against Rangers in league action.
They even put three past the Gers in the League Cup over this period, so they certainly don’t lack the firepower to keep this game interesting.

St. Mirren also look good value on the Asian handicap, especially when considering Celtic’s form on the road.
The visitors are just W3-D4-L3 on their travels in all competitions since late October, as the three victories were bagged over bottom-four outfits Motherwell, Hamilton and Kilmarnock.
