The Eagles have had great difficulty against the top eight sides in the table, going just W1-D5-L9 in such fixtures this term, while it was a similar story in the previous campaign as they were a similarly poor W1-D5-L10 against the top eight finishers.
However, Roy Hodgson’s men have taken maximum points in six of eight encounters versus bottom-half sides in 2021 so far, losing just once, so look set to prove competitive at the very least here.
Indeed, they’ve won four of their past five on the road to such teams, while by contrast, the Saints have lost five of their past seven against fellow bottom-half sides and appear far too short at the prices to get behind given their continued poor form.

Nine of Southampton’s 16 clashes with bottom-half sides have seen one team or the other fail to land a blow, so that should help keep proceedings tight.
