Recent Form

Crystal Palace had lost three on the bounce to Chelsea, Leicester and Man City, but a win away at Sheffield Utd last time out finally saw them secure the points they needed to guarantee Premier League football next season.

The Eagles have had great difficulty against the top eight sides in the table, going just W1-D5-L9 in such fixtures this term, while it was a similar story in the previous campaign as they were a similarly poor W1-D5-L10 against the top eight finishers.

However, Roy Hodgson’s men have taken maximum points in six of eight encounters versus bottom-half sides in 2021 so far, losing just once, so look set to prove competitive at the very least here.

Indeed, they’ve won four of their past five on the road to such teams, while by contrast, the Saints have lost five of their past seven against fellow bottom-half sides and appear far too short at the prices to get behind given their continued poor form.

Palace Draw No Bet

Southampton have lost four of their last five winless appearances in all competitions, though in mitigation, they did face Leicester (twice), Tottenham and Liverpool over this period, while each of those defeats came away from home.

Still, they’re only W2-D2-L13 in the league alone since mid-January, and with that in mind, their visitors look worth getting behind draw no bet.

Ralph Hasenhuttl does have better news in terms of team selection. Oriol Romeu and Danny Ings aren’t far away from returning from injury, while Takumi Minamino will be available having missed out against Liverpool on Saturday as he couldn’t face his parent club, though they’ll continue to struggle until star man Ings is back in the line-up.

Under 2.5 Goals

That could help contribute to a low-scoring affair, which has been a consistent theme in recent head to heads as all five meetings since 2018/19 have featured fewer than three goals.

Further, 10 of Palace’s last 13 against bottom-half sides have seen at least one team fail to score, while since the start of last season, 25 of their past 34 clashes versus such teams have seen a maximum of two goals.

Nine of Southampton’s 16 clashes with bottom-half sides have seen one team or the other fail to land a blow, so that should help keep proceedings tight.

Crystal Palace Draw No Bet At 6/4

0.5pts: Under 2.5 Goals At 5/6
