Rangers v St Johnstone Preview And Predictions - Scottish Premiership Week 14

Rangers will be looking to maintain their four-point lead at the top of the table when they welcome St Johnstone in the Scottish Premiership on Wednesday night. The defending champions reeled of a sixth consecutive win when they beat Hearts 2-0 on the weekend and with St. Johnstone bottom of the table and looking to snap a three game losing streak, it is likely that run will be extended to seven. Rangers made light work of what could have been a potential banana skin as they won 2-0 on the road at Hearts, maintaining their four-point cushion at the top of the table. It’s now five wins from six unbeaten games under Giovanni van Bronckhorst, as only a dead-rubber European trip to Lyon saw them fail to extract a victory.

St. Johnstone are on a four-game losing streak in all competitions, going down 1-0 to each of Celtic, Dundee and Aberdeen, as well as another narrow 2-1 defeat to Hibernian.

Although the margins have been fine, they’re a desperately poor W1-D2-L6 since the October international break, with their latest defeat taking them to the bottom of the table.

Rangers To Win And Under 3.5 Goals

The visitors biggest problem has undoubtedly been a lack of output, holding by far and away the worst offensive record in the division having scored just nine times in 16 appearances.

However, only the Old Firm duo have conceded more goals this season, as well as Hearts on a per game basis, as their matches have produced fewer than 1.6 goals on average in total.

Indeed, across all competitions, 14 of St. Johnstone’s past 18 outings have seen fewer than three goals, as just one of these contained four strikes. More recently, seven of the last eight have gone under that same threshold, as five of past six saw just one goal or less.

Rangers To Win To Nil

Even up against the Old Firm duo alone, only one of their 12 clashes since the start of last season have seen four goals, as St. Johnstone lost nine of them and drew the other three.

Given the 1-0, 2-0, 2-1 and 3-0 scorelines happened twice each over this period, Rangers & Under 3.5 Goals appears a likely outcome here.

That’s especially true when considering four of Giovanni van Bronckhorst’s six games at the helm to date have gone the same way.

A clean sheet would appear inevitable given the Gers have shipped just a single goal across their past four outings, which came against Lyon when veteran and in-form goalkeeper Allan McGregor was absent from the side.

PREDICTIONS:

RANGERS TO WIN TO NIL

RANGERS TO WIN AND UNDER 3.5 GOALS
