A 94th-minute equalizer for Hamilton denied Rangers yet another win and clean sheet in their last outing. It won’t make a blind bit of difference with regards to the title though, and the Gers should be backed to return to winning ways here.
Steven Gerrard’s men are still in with a good chance of matching Celtic’s ‘invincibles’ feat from 2016/17, as they remain unbeaten in the league this term having won 24 of 28 outings.
That includes 18 of the past 20 and although two of those games where they’ve dropped points have come recently in 2021, it’s worth noting that all four occasions where they’ve failed to secure maximum points this season have come on their travels.
At Ibrox alone, the record stands at a perfect 13 wins, as they’ve scored an average of exactly three goals per game.
The nearest thing to a blemish they’ve experienced was the solitary goal they conceded in a 3-1 victory over Motherwell prior to Christmas.
Such an astonishing defensive effort leaves the win to nil making obvious sense, especially when considering their visitors’ recent struggles.
Rangers To Win To Nil
Kilmarnock have made a change in the dugout, but neither caretaker James Fowler nor new appointee Tommy Wright have been able to turn their fortunes around as of yet, although their first performance under the new man was an improvement.
They’re sinking fast and have now lost 11 of 14 matches since the start of December, including each of the past six, while they failed to score in nine of those defeats in total.
In fact, up against the top four in the table, Kilmarnock have lost without conceding eight times in a row.
Even if they weren’t roundly humiliated often as seven finished either 1-0 or 2-0, including both meetings with Rangers themselves, it’s hard to picture them coming away with anything here.
Draw/Rangers HT/FT
Although Kilmarnock have been consistently losing games, they’ve largely been good at holding out until half-time and have trailed at that stage in just three of their past 16 games, drawing at the break on nine occasions over this spell.
That includes eight D/L half-time/full-time results, and they’ll no doubt take a defensive approach that could see Rangers take a while to stamp their authority on the scoreline.
Moreover, Rangers have been level at the break in each of their last three outings, including against bottom-half sides St. Johnstone and Hamilton in their last two.
Even on home turf they’ve led at half-time in just two of five outings, while they took 50 minutes to break down Kilmarnock when also hosting them back in August. Further, Kemar Roofe has had his suspension upheld, so Gerrard will be denied one of his most potent attacking weapons.
