A 2-1 defeat to the USA means Northern Ireland have now not won a single match within 90 minutes since they beat the Czech Republic 3-2 back in October 2019.

That’s a winless run of 12 matches now and Bulgaria would certainly be confident of grabbing a result here, though in truth their form isn’t exactly much better.

Indeed, The Bulgarians have won just the single match since they also came out on top against the Czech Republic back in November 2019, with that sole victory in that run coming against 195th  Gibraltar so this presents the perfect opportunity for both sides to get back to winning ways.

Bulgaria have won the last three meetings between the sides, with all of those victories coming by a single strike and we would expect this game to be another close encounter.

The main issue for Bulgaria at the moment seems to be output, and it’s on that basis we be surprised if this was a goal fest.

Excluding that match against a very weak Gibraltar side, the Eastern-European outfit have scored just five goals in 15 matches going back into summer 2019, and never scoring more than once in any of them and including blanks against the likes of Montenegro, Ireland, Belarus and Finland, all of whom could be considered on a similar level to the Northern Irish.

Under 1.5 Goals

The onus is certainly on the hosts and, in particular, manager Ian Baraclough who has had a poor start to life in charge and is currently on a run of six defeats from seven winless outings.

However, those have all been games of fine margins with the only one of those matches to be separated by more than a single strike coming last week away at a strong Italian side, so there’s certainly reason to believe they can at the very least take this game down to the wire.

Going forward has also been the main issue for the hosts, never scoring more than once in 10 games under current management.

On those grounds we can see this ultimately being a very low scorer, and while there’s a possibility of this ending in a 1-1 draw, we’d be surprised to see both teams net considering their current output woes, and either a 0-0 or 1-0 either way looks to be the value outcome, so the under 1.5 goals option at odds against is our pick for this one.

Under 1.5 goals At 6/4
