Brendan Rodgers may have made nine changes to his side from the Boxing Day clash with Liverpool, but it didn’t affect the outcome as they ran out 2-1 winners away at a hapless West Ham.
The Foxes have typically made light work of anyone who isn’t in the upper echelons of the table this season, as they’re W13-D3-L4 overall and have won 12 of 13 unbeaten matches against teams currently eighth or below in the table.
They’ve scored at least twice in every one of their victories this season, while with only league leaders Liverpool conceding fewer goals, Newcastle have their work cut out for them.
The Magpies head into this fixture on the back of consecutive defeats away at Man Utd and at home to a resurgent Everton. The latter result would have been particularly disappointing for Steve Bruce as home form has been key to his sides’ largely good performance in the table this season.
They had previously won four of eight unbeaten matches at St. James’ Park since an opening day defeat to the Gunners, including a win over Man Utd back in early October and a stalemate with Man City at the end of November, whilst they also took Leicester themselves to penalties in the League Cup here in August.
Leicester To Beat Newcastle
Although the hosts have been impressive on Tyneside, we’d have to side with the visitors in this one. Newcastle are still without key attacker Allan Saint-Maximin and they’re just W1-D2-L7 this season when the Frenchman has failed to start.
Meanwhile, Bruce has further absentees in winger Matt Ritchie and captain Jamaal Lascelles, as well as injury doubts Joelinton, Fabian Schar, Ciaran Clark, Sung-Yueng Ki and Paul Dummett.
Given many of Leicester’s players got a rest in their last outing, the Foxes should be much sharper and fresher and continue their relentless pursuit of a return to the Champions League.
