A comfortable 4-0 win on Thursday night for Man United puts them in complete control of their last 32 tie with Real Sociedad and relieves some of the pressure on the second leg return to Old Trafford.
While that win will do a lot for momentum, they’ll need to start picking up results in the league again if they want to hang on to their position in the table as they’ve now won just one of their last five league outings.
This is the perfect opportunity to get back to winning ways too, as Newcastle have striker Callum Wilson still on the sidelines, and with the Englishman having been involved in 15 of his sides 25 goals this season he’ll certainly be a huge miss.
In the three games he’s already missed this season, the Magpies have lost to nil on all three occasions and that run could very well be extended here.
Man United To Win To Nil
Steve Bruce’s men currently have a six-point cushion to the relegation zone, though they certainly can’t rest on their laurels as Fulham have shown they’re capable of a result.
They’ve lost seven of their last nine games in the league, though wins over Everton and Southampton have kept them out of reach of the drop.
They’ve lost all five of their matches this season against the current top four, with three of those coming to nil, while six of their seven defeats on the road this campaign have also seen them fail to find the back of the net.
While only Everton have a better points per game difference when on the road than United, there have been signs of improvement for the Red Devils when back on home soil this season.
They’ve gone W4-D2-L1 at home now despite only playing one bottom-six side in that run, and with the likes of Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford both among the goals in midweek, we’d expect them to have too much for their visitors here.
The hosts have won his fixture in each of the three seasons since Newcastle returned to the top-flight, scoring 11 times across those games, so the win to nil looks to hold the best value here considering Newcastle’s shortcomings up top.
