Manchester City v Brugge Preview And Predictions - Champions League Group Stage Four

Manchester City come into their Champions League Group A clash with Brugge knowing that nothing short of the win at the Etihad will keep them in the hunt to finish top of Group A. Pep Guardiola's team come into the game off the back of consecutive losses, a run they will want to snap in front of the home faithful if they are to keep in touch with group leaders PSG. Recent Form

After a disappointing 2-0 defeat at home to Crystal Palace, Manchester City will be striving to be at their best against Club Brugge on Tuesday.

Pep Guardiola’s men have a scarily good home record in the Champions league, W14-D1-L1, with the two non-wins coming as the draw was against Shakhtar Donetsk (1-1) in 19/20 and the loss against Lyon (3-1) just four games later.

Club Brugge have had a rocky relationship with the Champions league, since 2016 they have W7-D11-L15 which means they have only won 21% of all games in Europe.

They are currently sitting second in the extremely competitive Belgian Pro League and have only lost one game of their league campaign this year.

The Citizens are clearly big favourites to win this match, and that’s not surprising considering they have scored 59 goals at the Etihad with an average of 2.68 goals per game since the 17/18 season in the Champions league.

It must be said that virtually all these goals came in a formation where they had at least one recognised striker in Sergio Aguero or Gabriel Jesus, though.

Without Aguero to fall back on this year and Jesus yet to hit good form, it has sometimes been a challenge for Man City this season to put the ball in the back of the net.

After a 2-1 win away at Saint-Truiden on the weekend, Blauw-Zwart will look to carry on their away form.

They won their last away game in the Champions league against RB Leipzig, with all goals coming in the first half Club Brugge had a task ahead of them but they kept their poise and had a good defensive structure only conceding one good chance from the excellence of Andre Silva.

Hans Vanaken To Score Anytime

Since Philippe Clement took over in the beginning of the 19/20 season, they have a strong record away from home in this competition of W3-D4-L2, though they’ve received 5 red cards and conceded 14 goals across those games.

Club Brugge’s discipline could be a key factor on Wednesday night if they want to get a result, and we’re struggling to see them holding City out for the full 90.

In the last six games were Brugge have scored, club captain Hans Vanaken has scored on every single occasion.

He is their dead ball specialist and plays high up the pitch for an attacking midfielder, so there’s definitely value to be had on him being an anytime goal-scorer.

Over 3.5 Goals

On this occasion, the most amount of value is to be found on the goals markets. With 2.68 goals on average being scored by Manchester City at the Etihad and only nine clean sheets out of their last 22 home games in the Champions league.

Not to mention the 5-1 thrashing that occurred last time these two teams met.

PREDICTION:

OVER 3.5 GOALS

HANS VANAKEN TO SCORE ANYTIME
