City remain one of the most dangerous attacking threats in Europe, with their 19.4 shots per game the most in the Premier League and second only to Atalanta across Europe’s top five leagues.
However, prolificacy has been an issue for the defending Champions and a sturdy Burnley backline may prove difficult to break down.
Indeed, having conceded 29 goals in their first 16 games of the season, prompting questions of Sean Dyche’s defensive tactics that have proven so efficient over the years, they’ve now conceded just 11 in 13 matches, and a mere three in their last seven, so we can see them stifling the citizens on their own patch.
Under 2.5 Goals
Kevin De Bruyne may be fit enough for this clash after a minor injury kept him out of the side for Man Utd, though even if he is available it’s doubtful he’ll be risked with such an important fixture just three days after this one.
Man City’s record this season without the Belgian maestro in the starting line-up does not bode well, as despite there only being three matches that this has occurred, Guardiola’s side have lost all three to Norwich, Wolves and Man Utd, with the latter two defeats coming to nil as they struggled for creative output.
That’s not to say Burnley are going to take the spoils here, though they do have a much better chance of keeping their hosts at bay, which is why the prices on the total goals market are alarming.
City have seen a maximum of two goals in each of their last five games in the league, as well as in their recent FA Cup clash to Sheffield Wednesday when they fielded a strong line-up.
Burnley haven’t seen more than three goals in a game since they lost to Spurs back in early December, while eight of the 13 games over this spell also featured two strikes or less. While the more conservative under 3.5 looks banker material, we’ll go with an aggressive under 2.5 bet as the price is too good to ignore.
