Southampton will want to get a result here and banish the memory of the 9-0 defeat Leicester inflicted upon them at St. Mary’s back in October.
That was undoubtedly their low point of the season, but they arrive in much healthier spirits this time around and are now up to four wins from five unbeaten games in all competitions.
Most impressively, the Saints managed to record win to nil results over both Chelsea and Spurs, though they’ll probably find it harder to keep Leicester’s attack at bay.
The 46 goals the Foxes have plundered this season is only bettered by Liverpool (49) and Man City (56), while they’ve scored 10 more than next most prolific in the division, Chelsea and Spurs.
Both Teams To Score
Although we’re not holding out for another clean sheet for the visitors, we can certainly see them registering on the board at some stage.
When facing top-flight opponents in either the league or in cup action, Southampton have seen both sides find the net in 13 of their past 17 fixtures dating back to late September.
Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men only failed to score in two of these games, and while only Liverpool can boast a better defensive record than Leicester this term, the Foxes have still conceded in seven of their last 11 since the start of December across all tournaments following their League Cup stalemate with Villa midweek.
Leicester To Win And Both Teams To Score
The Saints have actually picked up more points on their travels than at St. Mary’s this season, with only the top four in the table picking up more points per game on the road.
That encourages us that they have what it takes to make life difficult for Brendan Rodgers’ charges, but we’re still expecting the home win. In fact, of the seven league games where the Foxes have dropped points this season, all but one of them came against teams that are currently seventh or higher in the table.
Leicester To Beat Southampton 2-1
Leicester have found themselves consistent rather than erratic not just in terms of acquiring results, but also in their rate of output.
They’ve scored three or more goals in five of 21 league matches this season, though it’s noticeable that aside from the extraordinary reverse fixture, each of the other four occasions came when facing teams below Southampton in the table.
They’ve bagged exactly two goals in six of their past 11 fixtures, and with each of the Saints’ last three away defeats finishing 2-1, the correct score is worth a small punt.
