Inter Milan v AC Milan Preview And Betting Tips – Premier League

The San Siro plays host to one of football's biggest rivalries on Sunday when Inter Milan host AC Milan in the “Derby della Madonnina.” Both sides added quality to their squads during the transfer window, Christian Eriksen and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to mention a few that will be on show this weekend. Both sides have plenty at stake outside of the bragging rights, AC who are unbeaten in seven are just seven points adrift of Champions League spots, while Inter are just three points off league leaders Juventus. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie while we have all the odds available for the Milan Derby on our sportsbook.

Recent Form

Serie A was supposed to be a two-horse race between Inter and Juve this season, but Lazio have muscled in on the action and it’s now a three-way tussle.

The Narazzurri could find themselves slipping away slightly if they can’t obtain a derby win here, and while they’ve held the upper hand in this fixture in recent times, they face a Milan side enjoying by far their best spell of what has largely been yet another dismal campaign.

Having lost six of nine matches between the mid points of September and November, Milan have lost just once in 12 matches across all competitions since then (W6-D5-L1). However, the defeat itself was a heavy one as they went down 5-0 away to Atalanta, while the fixture list has proven kind.

The only top team they faced were Napoli right at the beginning of the run, against whom they drew, though the Neapolitans are enjoying a similarly nightmarish season and so this will be a real test to see if they’ve truly turned a corner.

In fact, Milan have lost each of their five encounters with the top five in the league this term, with those the teams realistically in contention for Champions League football next year.

We certainly couldn’t get fully behind Stefano Pioli and his men given their bitter city rivals have lost just four games this season, with these coming against elite sides Barcelona (twice), Dortmund and Juventus, as each of those losses came by one-goal margins.

Inter And AC To Draw

The Rossoneri have also emerged triumphant just once in the past 11 Milan derbies since 2014/15 and none of the last seven, while Inter have won three on the trot now.

The Derby della Madonnina is rarely settled by wide margins, so Milan should stand a chance at taking a point, but it’s clear who are top dogs in Milan at present.

Antonio Conte does however have a problem or two with various players missing for him. Captain Samir Handanovic could be out for 3-4 weeks, Marcelo Brozovic and Stefano Sensi are doubts, while Alessandro Bastoni and Lautaro Martinez are both suspended.

Bastoni has a more than adequate replacement having usurped Diego Godin in the starting XI, but Martinez has become crucial for Inter and will be more difficult to replace.

They’ve scored 1.9 goals per game in Serie A since the start of last season when he’s started, compared with just 1.45 in his absence, with a fairly even split in the sample of 31 games started and 29 where he didn’t.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic may only have scored two goals in five appearances across all competitions since returning to Italy, but there’s no doubt that his influence has been felt with Milan looking more confident and going unbeaten since the big Swede’s arrival.

There’s been a change in formation to accommodate the 38-year-old and they’ve shored up defensively, with four clean sheets in seven since Ibra re-signed, compared to three in 14 prior to that.

Inter And AC To Draw 1-1

Inter are on the short side at evens to win city bragging rights, especially having won just five of 11 games since early December, but with a further five of these ending in stalemates there’s certainly reason to think an improving Milan can take a point.

The likes of Roma, Fiorentina, Atalanta, Lecce and Cagliari all managed it, with four of these games finishing 1-1.
