How have impressed have you been with Carlo Ancelotti since he turned up?
I’ve been very impressed with Carlo Ancelotti since he joined Everton. His record spoke for itself before he joined the club but his manner, his aura, the way he approaches individual players and then the bigger picture tactically and moving forward, seems absolutely fantastic. Everybody I’ve spoken to within the club will only sing his praises and that’s been reflected in results, except for the Chelsea game.
Do have you expects Mason Holgate to join Man City in the summer?
I would be surprised if Mason Holgate joins Man City in the summer. His performances have been very good for Everton. I don’t think there’s any question about that, he’s raised his levels individually, he’s become a big character within the Everton team. I would be surprised if he joined Manchester City at the end of the season. I think one good season doesn’t constitute a move in that manner, but he’s moving in the right direction.
Have you been disappointed with Gylfi Sigurdsson this season?
I’ve been disappointed with Gylfi Sigurdsson this season. I don’t think there’s any question that Gylfi’s not quite played at that level expected when he joined. It’s very difficult to play at a really good level throughout the whole of your career. Everybody will have dips in form, but the good thing about Gylfi, he gives his all, he’ll give 100 percent effort, regardless of how he’s playing form wise. So, I think he’ll be aware that he’s not been at the levels he was previously, but I’m sure he’ll be trying to change that for next season.
Mikel Arteta, have you been impressed with what he’s done so far in management and did he always come across as that sort of player that would go into it?
Mikel Arteta always came across as someone who would enter management. His manner around the dressing room, the training ground, his professionalism off the field, and his attention to details, even as a player on the field, were impressive. You felt that he was going to go down that route and then to be linking up with one of the top managers, Pep Guardiola, for a few seasons, it was a simple passage for him to go on to become a manager. From what I’m hearing from people around him, he’s been very impressive in his short time at Arsenal, in his first job as a manager, and they have a really high expectations for him moving forward.

Where does Klopp rank in terms of Liverpool’s greatest managers?
Klopp is up there as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever managers. When you look at Jürgen Klopp, he is that leader that everyone wants. He’s that leader that gives everyone their own responsibility but pushes them to be the best they could possibly be. When you go down to the training ground and everyone says how polite he is, how he brings everyone together, speaks to the tea lady, speaks to the kit man, he speaks to the groundsman, he speaks to everyone. And this is what you want as a leader.
Liverpool seem to have felt Henderson’s injury the past few weeks, should he be considered for Player of the Year?
Henderson should definitely be considered for Player of the Year this season with what he’s brought to the Liverpool team in the squad itself, and that’s considering that he had a tough time when Steven Gerrard left and he took over the captaincy. He’s managed to step out of Stevie’s shadow and be himself, everyone kept on looking at him as the next Stevie G but he’s said, “no, I’m John Henderson, I want to be myself.” And this is what he has stepped in to do and just look what he’s won.
Can Liverpool maintain this for next season and will Klopp take what’s happened recently and learn from that?
Klopp will always learn. He’s always learning, he will always learn from his mistakes. You learn actually more from your mistakes than actually from your wins. With an ageing frontline, they will probably look at that as something they need to address a little bit. But with the fitness of players now, just look at Ronaldo at 35, so I can’t see why these guys can’t do that as well. But you still want that backup, you still want to keep progression as a squad like they have done.
Which Liverpool player has impressed you the most this season?
I’ve been most impressed with Firmino. I just think he gives them that balance. He’s not necessarily a goal scorer, even though he does get his fair share of goals, but he gives them that balance that makes everything tick around him. He creates space for others to make their runs, and that’s where they get the joy from.
Do have you expect to see some new strikers coming in next season?
I expect to see some fresh faces coming in to Liverpool next season, and I expect that will include forwards. It just gives them that competition that you need that keeps them on their toes. I don’t expect those signings to be going straight into the side and to hit the ground running, but I expect them to give them competition.
Where do Liverpool need to strengthen next season?
With the ageing front three, I think Liverpool just need to strengthen up front. They’ve got the best goalkeeper, they’ve got the best defender, they’ve got the best wing backs, Henderson and Wijnaldum of give you a lot in Centre-Midfield. So yes, it’s difficult to say. Squad wise, they just need to have more rotation.
Will James Maddison join Man United this summer?
I can’t see James Maddison joining Man United in the summer. It’s good that he’s actually being linked to the top clubs because it shows that he’s actually doing something well. I think he’s doing very well. He’s a very, very creative young player, a confident young player and Brendan seems to be getting the best out of him. But I can’t see him leaving this summer. I feel he’ll stay for at least another year, if not two.
There are rumours about Jack Grealish going to Manchester United. It’s difficult not to imagine Grealish starring in that United side isn’t it?
Jack Grealish will star in the Man United side. He’s done so well to get Villa back up. He could have left, he stayed, got Villa back up, and he’s actually looked like a standout performer for the team. The next step for him is winning trophies and pushing his own career on.
