Rangers will be satisfied that they remain top of their Europa League group following another entertaining stalemate with Benfica, but there’ll also be a nagging sense of frustration having once again surrendered a two-goal advantage.
They’ll feel a little aggrieved that they didn’t receive a penalty for handball too, while Alfredo Morelos also had a shot pushed onto the crossbar before Benfica’s equalizer.
Although the Gers shipped five goals across those two clashes, their organization at the back was top notch for 75 minutes midweek.
In fact, the Portuguese outfit are the only side to breach their defence in 10 appearances since Galatasaray registered a consolation effort a couple of months ago and this should prove a more routine task.
Rangers To Win To Nil
Indeed, Rangers responded to that first clash against Benfica with 8-0 and 4-0 thrashings of Hamilton and Aberdeen respectively, even if these were at Ibrox, but clean sheets have been easier to come by domestically.
They’ve now shut out their opponents in 13 of 15 league outings this season, also winning on 13 occasions, so third-tier Falkirk should undoubtedly be there for the taking.
Steven Gerrard’s men have scored three or more in six of their domestic matches now, but although they’ve only achieved that once on the road, their opponents here are theoretically the weakest team they’ve encountered to date.
That should ensure that Gerrard rests some of his key men here as the league is the ultimate priority this season, while progress in Europe will be the other yardstick by which they’ll measure success this term.
Under 3.5 Goals
Falkirk shouldn’t be completely underestimated on home turf where they’ve won 10 of 12 matches in 2020 so far and scored at least twice on nine occasions.
They even managed a 3-0 win over Kilmarnock in early October in this competition, but Rangers are a different kettle of fish and along with Celtic, stand head and shoulders above everyone else. Falkirk will surely park the bus here and given the inevitable rotation for the visitors, we wouldn’t be surprised if this ends up being a more low-key win rather than an absolute pummelling.
