Recent Form

Newcastle have been slipping closer and closer to the drop in recent weeks and a 2-1 defeat to Leeds hasn’t helped their cause.

Steve Bruce’s men are now winless since the 12th December with nine defeats from 11 matches in all competitions since a 2-1 win over West Brom, netting just twice in the most recent nine of those games.

Everton were impressive in a 1-1 draw with Leicester as Dominic Calvert-Lewin returned to the side, and will be looking for revenge here having suffered a 2-1 defeat at St James’ Park in the reverse fixture back at the beginning of November.

They’ve been in good form lately having gone W5-D1-L1 since early December, despite playing Leicester (twice), Chelsea, Arsenal and West Ham in that run.

The biggest boost for Carlo Ancelotti is to have both Seamus Coleman and Lucas Digne fit, as well as James Rodriguez, all of whom provide ample supply for Dominic Calvert-Lewin who will be looking to get his goal tally ticking over once again.

Everton have gone W6-D1-L1 against the bottom-eight sides this season with the blemish on that record coming away to Newcastle themselves.

However, the Magpies were in much better form then they are now, and it’s hard to see the visitors getting anything out of this.

Five defeats on the bounce presents the worst form in the league at present, while both their goals in that time have come at home as they are yet to score on their travels since a 5-2 defeat at Elland Road over a month ago and while we wouldn’t count on that run continuing, we can’t see them getting anything here.

Everton Win/Win HT/FT

Newcastle very rarely get off to strong starts and have now gone 379 minutes of first-half football (excluding added time) without registering a single goal, as only four of their 19 strikes this season have become before the interval.

Only Spurs and Man City have a better first-half record than the Toffees in contrast, while they’ve been leading at the break in seven of their 10 wins this season, including all four here at Goodison Park, so the half-time/full-time market looks worth a punt here.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin To Score Anytime

Calvert-Lewin has failed to score in his last six games now, though that spell has mostly coincided with the absence of their attacking fullbacks and James Rodriguez. Ancelotti altered his style to play four centre-backs along the defensive line, limiting the supply to the England striker, though we’d expect the hosts to revert to the style that allowed him to be so potent in front of goal earlier on in the season.

He managed a goal on his return in the FA Cup and had a great chance to give his side all three points on Wednesday night as he headed a Lucas Digne agonisingly wide, but we’d back him to get back to scoring here against a less than resolute defensive line.

Everton Win/Win HT/FT At 13/10

Dominic Calvert-Lewin To Score Anytime At 10/11
