Recent Form
Everton are still stuck in a rut and following a fantastic start to the season, they’ve taken maximum points in just one of their last seven outings, as they’ve lost four of the past six.
Even the sole win came over relegation-battling Fulham, while they could only manage a stalemate away at Burnley last time out.
That’s not ideal preparation ahead of this clash, with Chelsea extending their unbeaten streak over 90 minutes to 17 matches midweek. The 1-1 draw with Krasnodar may have been a low-key affair, but Frank Lampard used the opportunity as guaranteed group winners to make sweeping changes.
Kai Havertz was the sole player to retain his starting spot from the win over Leeds last weekend, and with Hakim Ziyech and Callum Hudson-Odoi the only ones warming the treatment table, the side should remain reasonably fresh.
Prior to the second string getting a run out against the Russians, Chelsea had won eight of nine matches in all competitions as they scored at least twice in each victory.
Seven of those came by at least two clear goals and in fact, only Liverpool have registered more league goals than them this term.
Chelsea To Beat Everton
The Blues have also been very solid down the other end and although Kepa may have had to pick the ball out of his net against Krasnodar, replacement signing Edouard Mendy has kept nine clean sheets from 13 appearances in a stellar start to his Chelsea career.
The Senegalese is yet to concede more than once in a single game, so Everton have their work cut out for them.
Although Richarlison and James Rodriguez are the chief creators in this Everton outfit, the Toffees have been rather reliant upon Dominic Calvert-Lewin to tuck opportunities away.
He’s found the net in eight of 11 appearances this season, hitting 11 in total, and so Thiago Silva and Kurt Zouma will need to be on their toes.
It’s hard to ignore form however and Chelsea are really hitting their stride, with players fresh against a team struggling for any sort of momentum at all.
We wouldn’t want to bank on the away clean sheet given the talents at Carlo Ancelotti’s disposal, but we’ll stick on them to get the job done and claim the points.
