These two sides are both capable of lurching from the sublime to disaster. PSG have endured their fair share of European collapses in recent years – most notably at the Nou Camp – and somehow managed to come back from three goals down at Amiens this weekend to lead 4-3, only to throw away two points in stoppage time as their hosts found an equalizer.
However, Dortmund are specialists in the goals field and take crazy to unprecedented levels, springing from highs to lows like no other.
Over 3.5 Goals
At the start of the year, Dortmund became the first team in Bundesliga history to score five goals in three consecutive matches, and while they haven’t extended that, three goals in defeat to Leverkusen and a 4-0 victory over Frankfurt at the weekend shows they’re not exactly goal shy at the moment.
Eight of their last nine fixtures across all competitions have now seen a minimum of four goals, with five of six since the winter break featuring a minimum of five, so a high output is definitely on the cards here.
PSG are without a clean sheet in four now, while on their travels in Europe they’ve managed just five in 17 appearances since the 2015/16 knockouts.
These were garnered against Celtic, Anderlecht, Man Utd, Galatasaray and Club Brugge, while even the likes of Ludogorets, Basel and Crvena Zvezda got in on the action. 10 of the last 13 of these trips saw four goals or more, which we’re inclined to plump for here.
Erling Haaland To Score Anytime
The Parisians have found ammunition from all over the field of late with their past 15 strikes netted by 12 different players (even if three were own goals).
However, Dortmund’s 19-year-old sensations Jadon Sancho and Erling Haaland are tearing defences apart and catch our eye given we expect final-third action, especially with Neymar not 100% fit and Marco Reus missing through injury.
Sancho has now scored 12 goals in 14 matches dating back into November, showing phenomenal consistency by scoring at least once in 11 of these, but it’s impossible to ignore the claims of his new teammate.
Haaland has netted at a rate of just under 40 minutes per goal at his new club and has already struck nine times since his January arrival, while he’s shown previously that he belongs on this stage.
The Norwegian bagged eight goals in the group stages for Salzburg as he only failed to score on the single occasion, despite only been handed 34 and 28 minutes on the road at Liverpool and KRC Genk respectively.
Only Robert Lewandowski stands above him in the scoring charts for this season’s Champions League, while there’ll be no shortage of confidence with the Yellow Wall behind him at the Westfalenstadion.
