Crystal Palace v Southampton Preview And Betting Tips

Both Crystal Palace and Southampton will be hoping for better Premier League campaigns after finishing out of the top 10 last season. For the Saints an 11th place finish was hardly a disaster consider the relegation scrap they were involved in the season before, however they will be aware that they were three or four wins from European football last season, such are the small margins in the top-flight. Tipsters Form Labs guide you to where the value might lie with their betting preview and tips for the game.

Recent Form

A 14th place finish for Palace last season was their worst finish since 2016/17 before Roy Hodgson took the helm and they’ll certainly want to improve on that.

They’ve dug into their pockets to try and improve on their attack, signing midfielder Eberechi Eze from QPR for a fee of around £16 million, while Michy Batshuayi is being linked with another loan move and considering only rock-bottom Norwich scored fewer than their 31 strikes last season, it looks like the right area to be bolstering.

Southampton had their best finish for three season with an 11th place last term and that was largely down to the attacking quality that runner-up in the golden boot race Danny Ings brought to the side.

The striker netted 22 times which was only bettered by Leicester’s Jamie Vardy and Ralph Hasenhuttl will be hoping he can continue that hot streak.

Southampton To Beat Palace

The Saints have had a degree of success in their trips to South London down the years, winning all three trips to Selhurst Park since the start of 2017/18 season, as two finished 2-0 and the other 1-0.

That also fits with the fact that the visitors were the third best travelling side in the Premier League last term, picking up 31 points from their 19 trips falling just short of Man City’s total of 34.

In fact, that trend remained the same for the final eight games of the season too and so we can expect them to be a handful this weekend.

The end of the season couldn’t have come at a better time for the Eagles. They lost seven of their last eight winless outings as they rapidly plummeted down the table and Hodgson will have to work wonders to turn that form around in the month’s preparation they’ve had in pre-season.

That dip in form did coincided with injuries to all of Patrick Van Aanholt, James Tomkins, Gary Cahill and Christian Benteke and so we can expect a natural return to better form with a few of those players back in the starting line-up, although the latter two look unlikely to return just yet.

To add to their worries, Palace went just W2-D7-L15 from their 24 encounters last season when excluding the bottom eight teams in the league, and even if we also exclude the top four (Chelsea, Man Utd, Man City and Liverpool) they’ve still lost six of their last seven winless outings, including all three on the road, and we have to be getting behind the Saints to hit the ground running.

Southampton To Beat Palace At 7/5
