Man City v Man United Preview And Betting Tips – EFL Cup Semifinal – 2nd Leg

Goals from Silva, Mahrez and an own goal from Pereira gave Man City a 3-1 advantage in the first leg of their EFL Cup semifinal at Old Trafford. With Guardiola's team unlikely to catch Liverpool in the league, one expects he has his eye on the EFL Cup, FA Cup and Champions League if they are to deliver a successful season. Tipsters Form Labs return with their betting preview and tips for their second leg clash with Man United, while we have all the odds available for the midweek action.

A 6-0 win at Tranmere will have provided some breathing space for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, but even on a dreadful pitch the League One strugglers were always likely to be easy pickings, especially as the Norwegian named a number of regular starters amongst his team sheet.

The result hasn’t banished memories of successive 2-0 defeats to Liverpool and Burnley just prior to that, while the Red Devils have now lost by a two-goal margin in each of their past five defeats, including at Old Trafford in the first leg of this semi-final.

Marcus Rashford may not have been missed against Tranmere, but United’s failure to score in those other two games since he’s been sidelined has to be of concern.

In fact, the visitors here have lost just 25% of their league outings when Rashford has started since the start of last season, compared to a much larger 43% in his absence, while of course it was the England international that bagged the consolation effort in the first leg.

Man City also had no problems navigating their way into the fifth round of the FA Cup, cruising past 10-men Fulham 4-0, though hardly anyone that Pep Guardiola named in his starting XI will feature from the off here. With the league effectively over, the Spaniard will inevitably focus all his attention and resources on cup competitions, and so it’s understandable that his team start as heavy favourites.

Man City To Win To Nil

United had performed better against the top sides earlier in the campaign. Most notably they thumped Chelsea 4-0 at Old Trafford on the opening day, as well producing home wins over Leicester and Spurs, away successes at Chelsea in this competition and Man City in the league, while they remain the only side to take a point off Liverpool this term.

However, given all but two of those six games in total came at Old Trafford, while 2020 has already seen them lose to Arsenal, Man City and Liverpool in their biggest challenges of the New Year, this characteristic ability to mix it with the best appears to be deserting them.

The downturn in results against the top sides has coincided with the absence of midfielder Scott McTominay, as United’s league record without him reads W2-D2-L3 this season.

That leaves Solskjaer without his first choice pairing of the Scott and Paul Pogba, casting further doubt on United’s prospects here and in particular their ability to fashion chances.

City have now won seven of eight unbeaten games across all competitions and with consecutive clean sheets under their belt, we think they’re ready to extend that run.

A significant part of the reason they’ve fallen behind Liverpool this season has been the absence of key centre-back Aymeric Laporte, who returned to help them to a clean sheet away at Sheffield Utd before being rested against Fulham.

He should slot straight back into the line-up here, and with the visitors struggling for output against quality opposition, the win to nil appeals.

Man City To Win To Nil At 6/5
