Recent Form

Having had all the plaudits coming Chelsea’s way after downing Man City last week to put them on a five-game winning run across all competitions, that came to an abrupt end on Wednesday night as West Ham struck home a late winner.

Watford, can’t quite boast that kind of form with two defeats form three winless matches since returning to action, and they could do with the Blues doing them a favour as they sit just one point off the drop zone.

All too often inconsistency has gotten the better of Frank Lampard’s young side this season. That recent impressive run was the first time since beating Palace back in early November where they’ve managed back-to-back league victories, and we’ve almost come to expect them to throw in a poor result every now and then.

However, they should bounce back confidently and it’s hard to ignore the fact they’ve won each of their last three at Stamford Bridge against Everton (4-0), City (2-1) and Liverpool (2-0) in the FA Cup.

The Hornets haven’t exactly hit the ground running like they needed to on their return, although everyone will still remember their impressive result hosting Liverpool before the break, while a stalemate against the Foxes last month shows signs of improvement.

However, both those results came at Vicarage Road and when visiting opposition this term it hasn’t ended successfully for them. Indeed, they’ve gone W2-D4-L10 on the road, as 80% of those defeats saw them register a blank, while both their victories came against fellow relegation battlers Bournemouth and Norwich.

Chelsea To Win To Nil

In fact, Watford have lost 28 of 29 on their travels to either the current top six this season or top-six finishers from the past four campaigns.

The five trips this term alone saw them lose by an aggregate scoreline of 17-0, although one of those was an 8-0 hammering by the Citizens, while three finished 2-0.

Interestingly, if we look at the Blues’ home wins this term across all tournaments, we can see that seven of their last nine victories saw them net exactly two goals and we wouldn’t be surprised to see a repeat of that.

Chelsea To Beat Watford 2-0

To make matters worse, the visitors have all of Craig Dawson, Daryl Janmaat and Gerard Deulofeu on the sidelines for this clash too, which only decreases their chances.

Chelsea on the other hand, don’t have anywhere near the sort of problems the visitors have in the treatment room and that’ll just boost their chances even more in this one.

Chelsea To Win To Nil At 5/4

Chelsea To Beat Watford 2-0 At 6/1
