Four goals for Olivier Giroud made for a comfortable evening away at Sevilla midweek, securing Chelsea top spot in their group, while Frank Lampard will have been delighted by the strength of this performance.

He made nine changes from the team that drew with Tottenham, so should have reasonably fresh legs to call upon here.

The Blues appeared the more likely team to go on and find a winner last week, but they’ll be content with a point against Jose Mourinho’s men regardless.

It’s the only time they’ve failed to extract maximum points in eight outings across all competitions, as they’ve scored at least twice in each win and three or more in over half of these games.

Defence proved to be Chelsea’s Achilles heel last term as they held the worst record amongst the top half of the table, with Liverpool, Man City and Man Utd each conceding at least 18 fewer goals.

However, successive clean sheets versus Tottenham and Sevilla means they’ve shut out their opponents in eight of 10 appearances now, with the signings of Edouard Mendy, Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell really helping out in that department.

The midweek triumph over Sevilla means Chelsea have lost just once in 17 appearances this season, and even that came against Liverpool back in September, as Andreas Christensen was sent off on the stroke of half-time with the game still goalless.

They should be expected to see off the challenge of Leeds then, although Marcelo Bielsa’s side are often hard to predict and Chelsea won’t underestimate them.

Leeds have certainly fared better in their last two outings with Kalvin Phillips returning to screen the back four, drawing with Arsenal and taking three points from Everton.

The England midfielder had missed three games, including back-to-back 4-1 defeats to both Leicester and Crystal Palace, with those the only two times Leeds have gone down by more than a single-goal margin this season.

Leeds are still just W2-D2-L3 since the start of October and whereas Chelsea have a fully fit squad, Bielsa has a few absentees to contend with.

Adam Forshaw, Gaetano Berardi, Pablo Hernandez and Jamie Shackleton are all unavailable, while Diego Llorente and Jack Harrison are doubts.

Chelsea are motoring at the moment and they’ve been killing off games early. They’ve been ahead by the break already in seven of their past eight games, with the exception that goalless stalemate with Mourinho’s Spurs.

In fact, the Blues have led at half-time in nine of their past 10 league wins, while Leeds have trailed at the break in all but one of their four defeats this term.
