Recent Form

Brighton suffered their first defeat in seven across all competitions as Leicester edged them out in the FA Cup on Wednesday, courtesy of a 94th-minute winner from Kelechi Iheanacho, but their form remains solid with notable victories over both Tottenham and Liverpool in recent weeks.

In fact, they’ve lost just three of 14 appearances now, with the other defeats inflicted by Arsenal and Man City, as those losses also came by 1-0 scorelines.

Leicester were actually restricted to just three shots on target as despite Brighton playing some pretty attractive football, they’ve actually been watertight at the back of late.

They’ve registered four clean sheets from their past five league outings, while their last six have all been low-scoring affairs with a combined six goals across them, as a 1-1 draw with Burnley had the highest output.

Brighton are still struggling to put chances away, and that could potentially cost them here as Villa rarely fail to land a blow of their own.

Dean Smith’s men have failed to score in just two of 17 appearances in all competitions, with the sole exception across their last 11 when they drew a blank visiting the Etihad.

Pep Guardiola’s outfit hold by far the division’s best defence this term, and that encounter remains the only occasion where Villa have failed to score in 13 league trips dating back to July.

Ollie Watkins To Score First

Villa have been up and down in recent weeks with victories over Newcastle, Southampton and Arsenal intersected by defeats to Burnley and West Ham.

However, Ollie Watkins has been on fire of late with confidence fully restored, netting in four of their last five outings to reach double figures in the league.

Having opened the scoring inside 15 minutes in three of those games, he looks a decent shout to draw first blood here.

Villa have of course surpassed all expectations this season following some clever summer recruits, winning five of their last six against bottom-half sides as they netted 12 goals across these games.

They led at the break in each of those, further encouraging us to get behind top scorer Watkins to get the ball rolling, while Villa also kept clean sheets in all five victories over this spell.

Dean Smith is without Kortney Hause and Wesley, but is free from any new concerns and his team have had four days extra to prepare for this game.

Graham Potter made seven changes for Brighton’s midweek clash, but he has a lengthier list of absentees as he’s still missing Tariq Lamptey, Alireza Jahanbakhsh, Florin Andone and Solly March, while Davy Propper and Adam Webster are both doubts.
