Recent Form

Uruguay have made a slow start to the Copa America with a narrow defeat to Argentina and a stalemate with Chile, but with four of five teams qualifying from each group, there’s certainly no need for any panic to set in.

Those two sides will be expected to finish near the top of the standings, though Uruguay need to get off the mark here against by far the weakest team in Group A.

Following defeats to Paraguay and Chile, Bolivia are now a terrible W2-D3-L15 since the start of 2019, as even one of those victories came in a friendly over Haiti.

They failed to register a single clean sheet from these 20 matches, conceding at least twice in 12 of their past 13 defeats, though they’ll hope Uruguay’s recent struggles in front of goal can aid their cause.

Oscar Tabarez’s men have only registered one strike in five appearances, though there’s no shame in 1-0 and 2-0 defeats to Argentina and Brazil respectively.

Goalless stalemates with Paraguay and Venezuela in World Cup qualifiers weren’t total disasters, while a 1-1 draw with Chile is still a respectable result.

However, Uruguay have only taken victory by more than a single goal once in 17 appearances now, going back 24 months, so we wouldn’t expect them to but Bolivia to the sword.

Uruguay To Win And Under 3.5 Goals

Bolivia haven’t been utterly without any merit, with both teams finding the net in 12 of their last 15 appearances, including eight of the past nine.

However, Uruguay’s battled-hardened veteran duo of Diego Godin and Jose Gimenez know how to keep a clean sheet, conceding just two goals in four games, so we wouldn’t necessarily bank of Bolivia finding the net here.

That’s especially the case with star forward Marcelo Moreno testing positive for coronavirus, while goalkeeper Carlos Lampe has been in inspired form to keep the scores down in this tournament so far.

Three of Bolivia’s four defeats in 2021 have seen fewer than four goals, with the exception when Paraguay launched a second-half comeback in a 3-1 win after Jaume Cuellar saw red on the stroke of half time.

Luis Suarez and Edinson Cavani aren’t getting any younger, but remain potent forces as their performances for Atletico Madrid and Man Utd have demonstrated this term.

Each of them have 120 international caps and between them 115 goals, netting a combined six times in Uruguay’s four clashes with Bolivia over the past decade, with Suarez scoring four of them.

Still, this is an ageing side, and though star quality should propel them to the win, it’s unlikely to be a riot.
